Welcoming professional and amateur athletes alike, KRICK, LLC. is hosting its annual log rolling tournament, the Three Rivers Roleo, on Saturday, July 9th. Set on the historic logging site of the Great River Landing on the Black River in Onalaska, the tournament boasts a wealth of entertaining athleticism, wherein log rollers from around the country compete for top spot on the log.

This bracket-style tournament with men’s and women’s divisions pits log rollers toe-to-toe, rolling the best out of five in order to advance to the next match-up. The last person standing wins the tournament. Several world champion competitors will be attending the Onalaska event including Meredith Ingbretson, the 2015 World Championship Winner in the Womens’ Division, as well as past champions Gretchen Greene, Shana Verstegen, Brian Duffy, and Garrick Birdsong.

KRICK, LLC was founded by brother and sister business partners Jacob and Katie Rick, and the Three Rivers Roleo tournament was created from a passion for log rolling that started at the YMCA, when the Ricks were kids. Katie Rick, the director of Three Rivers Roleo, is also a professional log roller with 23 years of experience and was a two-time semi-finalist at the world championships. “My goal [for the tournament] was to start very small and every year make incremental additions,” said Katie Rick. “This is year two of being on television with Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Wisconsin. It’s a great opportunity for the competitors and the tournament to grow.”

Spreading their love for the sport, KRICK, LLC is developing and growing its tournaments and training opportunities. “Being outside in the open water, in the sun is what I love most about log rolling,” shared Katie Rick. “If you fall in, you go for swim, and then you get back on. When it’s 95 degrees, I’d much rather work out on the water than anywhere else.”

New this year, Katie Rick headed up the US Log Rolling Open in June in Chicago, Ill., bringing the sport to a new state. Following Three Rivers Roleo, additional tournaments will take place this month at the Namekagon River Roll Off and the 2016 Log Rolling World Championships, both in Hayward, Wis.

All tournaments are family-friendly, and the Three Rivers Roleo welcomes the community with concessions provided by Shenanigans and free admission. Bleacher seating is available but limited, so families are invited to bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs for additional seating. The competition begins at 11:00 a.m. and is expected to bring in between 80-100 athletes.
